The Israel Palestine War

The world is more involved in this war. Each of my friends and colleagues has an opinion about it. Some even have military strategies that each group must follow to win!

I had received widespread criticism before for saying this, however, I would say this again - I don't know who is right, Israel or Palestine. People have strong opinions on one of the sides that they choose to support. One of the most important criticisms that I received was my inability to understand the difference between a world of liberal democracy with free information that allows people to live and pursue their dreams versus authoritarian control that dictates thoughts and behavior and favors fear, hate, and death over courage, love, and life. I would like to thank everyone who provided me with this Western definition of their liberal world. Of course, I skipped my elementary Civics classes in middle school. Of course, I have never seen one of those "America: The Land of Liberty" advertisements.

Every country is also bound to take sides. Sadly each one of us knows that this decision is not going to be driven by reducing the effect of war, rather, by geopolitics of what would earn them maximum benefit from the war. Maybe earn more allies. Maybe destroy a common enemy. Maybe sell weapons and enrich your economy (hello America!). Or maybe establish yourself at the world level. Casualties? Fuck them, nobody cares for those dying people and orphaned children. The US would support Israel as they, needless to say, certainly hate the existence of the Islamic world. Antony Blinken already clarified that the US will always support Israel no matter what. Are we simply going to ignore the fact that, as of 13th October, more people have died in Gaza due to Israel's bombing? Israel has shown no mercy. The support of the US and Europe has only raised its confidence to continue the bombings. I will ignore the fact that any government of the US would need the vote of millions of Jews and so they need to cripple antisemitism.

The thing that surprised me the most was the following news article:

"Billionaire hedge fund CEO Bill Ackman and several other business leaders are demanding Harvard University release the names of students whose organizations signed on to a letter blaming solely Israel for the deadly attacks by Hamas."

Can you believe this? Now, I am not supporting Hamas. I understand that anti-semitism sentiments need to be buried. But, don't you think this is a murder of free speech? Isn't this an example of a situation where a capitalistic power is able to control the lives of ordinary citizens? Is this what courage, love, and life are as promised by those American advertisements? Would anyone question how some CEO has the power to decide the future of college students?  But why was I surprised anyway? After all, corporations run America. Government is just a puppet in the hands of crony capitalists whose only intention is to suck the blood of ordinary citizens to ensure that they belong to the rich. I strongly believe that there is hardly any difference between democracy and dictatorship. Dictatorship is when an individual or a group is able to forcefully rule over a country and crumble the rights of its citizens. And democracy is the same, but wrapped with an electoral system that cannot prevent the blind propaganda from forcing the people to elect the same individuals every time.

The war is going to leave Gaza in a devastated state. There will be several homeless people. They would leave the state to enter another, where they would be refugees. One thing that I can't stand the sight of is an old woman begging. I usually don't give anything to young ones, but I lose control of my money when I see the old ones. I can't imagine the horrific old age that such people need to go through. The UN has released repeated statements condemning the actions of Israel, however, Israel is in no mood to stop. It will continue to destroy Gaza.

DDoS Attack on Bitotsav '19 Website

This is not a technical write-up. This is a story that I want to share which might be a lesson for several web and app developers out there. Bitotsav is the annual cultural fest of BIT Mesra, and the Tech Team was responsible for developing the website and the Android app. There were 46 events in the fest, and we were responsible for sending out updates (announcements, results, etc.) for each event to the app. On February 16, 2019, the second day of the fest, the website started experiencing problems. The website got slower and slower. The website was hosted on a Microsoft Azure Virtual Machine. It was evening, around 5:00 PM. I checked the logs for the Virtual Machine. In the past six hours, 700 GB of data was uploaded and downloaded from the server. The Virtual Machine had 4 VCPUs, and all of them were being rigorously used. Due to such huge traffic, all the APIs stopped responding. The app was no longer usable. No updates could be sent to the participants. What was happening? In the...

Gratitude To Two Most Important Things In My Life

The past few days have been a journey of reflection and appreciation. Two things, in particular, have filled me with immense gratitude, and I feel compelled to express my thanks publicly. 1. Google Google has been a defining chapter in my professional life. Joining them in January 2020 connected me to an incredible network. From day one, I was fortunate to learn from some of the brightest minds in computer science. They fostered a collaborative environment, patiently guiding me to become a valuable contributor. Their years of experience never translated to condescension. It's true, I have reservations about the broader structures of large corporations in the capitalistic world. However, Google's internal culture feels unique. It's a collaborative community, where everyone works together to share the fruits of our combined efforts. Imagine a large, supportive family – that's the feeling Google fosters. I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunities here. Their generou...

My Personal Take On Fate & Astrology

Disclaimer : This post explores the concept of fate & astrology. I acknowledge that beliefs about astrology vary greatly. My intention is not to endorse or discredit astrology, but rather to offer a perspective on the topic. This post may not resonate with everyone, particularly those who do not believe in fate. However, I encourage you to read it with an open mind, as it may offer an interesting viewpoint or spark new thoughts. The concept of "fate" has always intrigued me, but it wasn't until my 2024 trip to Japan that I truly began to grasp its profound meaning. Japanese culture deeply embraces the idea of fate, an inevitability that cannot be altered. This became particularly clear during my visit to Kiyomizu-dera temple in Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan. There, I drew an Omikuji , a fortune slip, and while initially disappointed with the outcome, I began to understand the Japanese perspective. This understanding deepened during my visit to Hiroshima. Having ...
